To speak in the jargon of the environmentalists:

Relationships can be a nonrenewable resource, I think. Nonrenewable in the sense that you can't just start over from scratch all the time.

You have to develop sustainable strategies for living. Once those are put in place, the relationship starts to produce its own energy and forward momentum.
